Sub-Palette Guide - Skill Pages & Mid-Fight Swapping

The Sub-Palette in Qliphah in Providence's Shadow: your swappable second skill page, and why two focused pages beat one overstuffed one.

Quick Answer: What Is the Sub-Palette?

The Sub-Palette is your swappable second skill page — the HUD prompt (RB on the standard scheme, shown in the official combat screenshots) flips between pages mid-fight. Your main palette carries the fight plan; the Sub-Palette carries the contingency: a support page with buffs and recovery for surviving an onslaught, an offense page stacked for Rush chains when the timeline opens. Swapping is free, instant, and the difference between a five-skill build and a whole arsenal.

  • Main palette: your programmed counter-chains and finishers (Battle Skills).
  • Sub-Palette support page: ally buffs, recovery abilities — Reliable Support and Healing Hands live here.
  • Sub-Palette mobility page: Move Skills for repositioning into counter windows.
  • Customize both at rest points — the A School Self-Forged achievement marks your first edit.
Swap on the timeline’s cue, not under pressure: flip to support the moment a dense attack cluster appears, and back to offense the moment your guard holds.

Why Two Beats Five

A single overstuffed page buries the skill you need mid-fight; two focused pages give every button a job. The achievement list quietly endorses the habit — buff usage (Reliable Support, 50 casts) and recovery usage (Healing Hands, 50 casts) both assume you actually carry and use support skills, which only happens reliably when they have their own page.

Palette Disciplines by Fight Length

Short Battle Site fights favor all-offense pages — Rush chains and counters, in and out. Boss fights are Sub-Palette fights: dense phases demand the support page, punish windows reward the swap back, and the Arcanum Awakening finisher (All-Out Attack) should sit where you can reach it at kill time. Respec at the rest point before every boss gauntlet.
